Emerson School students visit SCM Australia's Melbourne Technology Center

On 13 August, students and teachers from the Emerson School Woodworking Technology class visited SCM Australia's Melbourne Technology Centre for a first-hand look at the technology, safety innovations and production methods shaping the woodworking and manufacturing sector today.

The group spent time around the machines while they were running and heard from the SCM team about how each technology fits into a modern production process. Seeing machines in operation gives students a far clearer picture of the industry than classroom material alone, and the visit prompted plenty of questions about the technology, the software behind it and the career paths available in the sector.

Safety technology was a particular point of interest. Innovations of this kind are changing the way workshops operate and the way new professionals are trained, and the group was able to see the systems working rather than simply hear them described.

The visit forms part of SCM Australia's ongoing commitment to trades education and industry collaboration. Woodworking production is advancing quickly, with automation, digital control and integrated processes becoming standard across the sector. The people who will work with these technologies are in classrooms and training centres today, which makes early exposure to real production environments valuable for students and for the industry that will employ them.

SCM Australia's Technology Centres in Melbourne and Sydney serve as demonstration and training facilities, giving customers, partners and education groups access to the full range of SCM technology in operation.
